Tournament Rules
Army lists are due no later than March 26th 2011. Please email them in either Text, Word, or Excel format to ocb.coordinator@yahoo.com.
*If you miss the army list submission deadline your army will automatically be put into comp category #1 and you will lose out on the bonus +2 sports points you get for being on time!
This tournament will use 8th edition Warhammer Fantasy Battles rules. Any official Errata published in the latest annual compilation, White Dwarf, on the GW website, or Direwolf FAQ will be used—GW online Errata takes precedence.
Armies do not have to be painted (ALTHOUGH WE WOULD PREFER IT TO BE PAINTED)
** Your army must be painted to the usual standard (3 colors, etc...primed does not count as painted), in order to qualify for any prizes except for Whipping Boy and door prizes.
No more than 2,500 points may be spent on your army.
Armies must follow the restrictions on army selection from their own Warhammer Armies book and must use the most recent version of that army book. Dogs of War may NOT be taken in a non-DoW army.

This is the Brawler BASH; not the “Timid Tussle” or the “Scaredy-

Battle Points will be awarded for the following:

by purchasing Raffle Tickets!
Army Comp
Armies will be built using up to 2500 points. (You may use less, but you are not allowed to go over, even by 1 point!) Dogs of War units will only be allowed in DoW armies. DoW armies and Ogre Kingdoms armies are the only armies allowed to use Rhinox Riders.
**No Special Characters**
The following items are banned:
Power Scroll
Your army will be put into one of three simple categories by the TO's:
1-“Hard” Army: Clearly chosen to maximize tabletop effectiveness (i.e. Double rares of some units [Hydras, A-bombs, Stanks-Duh], overload in a particular phase, the best magic item combos, etc...)
2- “Middle of the Road” Army: Doesn't fit in one of the other categories
3- “Soft” Army: Clearly avoided some of the most common optimal builds/items/units. Has taken steps to noticeably "soften" the army (DE with no Hydras, Dwarf few/no war machines, No lord choice, Skaven no A-bomb, etc...)
This rating will affect match-ups for the first 2 games of the tournament (no comp score as such in the over-all standings). If at all possible, you will play someone with the same army rating as you in the first two games. From the 3rd round on, draws will be based on straight battle points.
Hard list- no bonus points
Med list- +5 bonus battle points (+1 per game over hard)
Soft list-+10 bonus battle points (+1 per game over med, +2 per game over hard)
These bonus points are added AFTER the last game. Therefore not impacting matchups at all. Only effecting over-all score.
If you miss the army list submission deadline(March 26th 2011) your army will be put into category #1(and you will lose out on the bonus +2 sports points you get for being on time! So get „em in!)
*Note: Don't get bent about being placed in one category or another. There will be armies on "the bubble" and decisions will be made one way or the other. If it is ultra important to you to be in a particular category make the army list changes that you know will put you firmly in that category or ask a TO. We will give you feedback to a point (I am not going to look over a list 5 separate times while you try to shave your way into a lower category...don't be "that guy" )
**The TO‟s reserve the right to veto any army that is an utter blight. I don‟t expect it to come to that, but there it is in black and white in case it is necessary.
Army lists are due no later than March 26th 2011. Please email them in either Text, Word, or Excel format to ocb.coordinator@yahoo.com.
Scenarios
Scenarios from the book will be used. Plan accordingly!
No scenario will be repeated and everyone will play the same scenario each round (We will tell you what scenario to use each round). That means 5 of the 6 scenarios will be used. The following changes will be in effect for the book scenarios:
Watchtower: Instead of a tower in the middle of the board there will be a hill. Together with your opponent decide on and mark the center of the hill in some way. Controlling the center of the hill (either actually covering the exact center of the hill with your model‟s base or barring that, having the closest model to the center) grants that model or unit “Steadfast.” When the game ends it grants you a Win! (and conversely, your opponent gets a loss regardless of VP)
Scenario runs as described other than that. (i.e. If you are in control of the hill during set-up then you can choose to place a unit of up to 20 core on the hill before the game starts, etc…)
**You must be actually touching the hill to gain either benefit** (no “closest model” being 2 feet away silliness)
*NEW* for 2011- Terrain Table Contest: This year the Brawler Bash is hosting a Terrain Table Contest. Entries can be individual or clubs/groups. Bring your best terrain and make a table! The table will be used for the tournament. The staff will pick one entry to be the winner on Saturday night. In addition to a prize, the winner will have his/her choice of playing on that table once on Sunday(If a group wins, then they get to choose which player will get the honor). EVERY participant that enters will get full points on the "Army Theme and Cohesiveness" category of the paint scoring checklist.**Groups/clubs will have to choose up to 2 persons to gets this bonus ( in other words, everyone in a 10 man club doesn't get the bonus because of one table)
Rules: You may have multiple entries if you wish(we reserve the right to cap that number in order to let everyone who wants to enter participate). The deadline for letting the TO know that you plan on
participating (and how many entries you plan to bring) is March 26th 2011. If you are entering a table/tables PLEASE be courteous and arrive on Friday evening or early enough on Saturday to set it up. You should bring a drop cloth or game mat/board if that goes with your entry(We will have extras if needed, but ask ahead of time). No more than 2 pieces with special terrain rules. Tables should be the standard 6x4. There should be 5-10 pieces of terrain as per the rule book. Contact the TO ahead of time to schedule your entry. We need to know how many are going to participate before Saturday, April 2nd 2011 so we can set up the hall accordingly. You will get to take your stuff home at the end of the BB of course!
**NOTE** These tables will be played on and accidents do happen despite all of our best efforts. If you have irreplaceable items or items of great value please consider this before you enter them into the contest. We will take every care with your terrain, but Brawler Bash will not be held responsible for any damage that occurs to terrain through normal game playing.
This is supposed to be a fun side event and is helpful to us staffers since 8th edition has ramped up the terrain requirements. We are flexible. If you have any questions do not hesitate to ask!
Sportsmanship
We have learned several lessons from past Bashes, the main one being: Everyone is a good sport! This year we‟ll be trying something new in an effort to get more division amongst the field.
At the end of game 5 on Sunday, each player will place their 5 opponents in order from best to worst starting with #1 being your most enjoyable opponent and #5 being your least enjoyable opponent. You MUST do this and turn it in to have your game 5 results counted. The player with the lowest total wins Bash Crasher.
Tie-breaker for this category is battle points.
*Note: For Over-All Score purposes the sportsmanship score will be inverted (i.e. being ranked #1 by an opp = 5 pts. Being ranked #5 by an opp = 1 pt., etc…) IF your total score would be less than “12” you will receive a score of “12” instead. Therefore, the sports score that counts for your over-all score will be between 12-32 points**.
(** +2 bonus points added to your sports score by meeting the army list deadline!)(**+1 bonus point per game added to your sports score for turning in your score cards on time each round!)
Painting
I. Basecoating/Shading/Highlighting of Models
All models fully painted, but no real shading or highlighting present (1 point)
Average shading or highlighting present (2 points)
Above typical tabletop standard shading and highlighting present (3 points)
Shading or highlighting to high standard, above average, GW store standard (4 points)
Shading or highlighting similar or close to „Eavy Metal standards (5 points)
II. Conversions
Some minimal conversions were made to plastic miniatures (1 point)
Simple conversions were made to metal and plastic miniatures, including head/weapons swaps, and the like. (2 points)
Honest attempts were made to convert some of the major parts of the army such as characters, special units, standard bearers, etc. (3 points)
As 3, but with above average results (4 points)
As 3, but with professional looking results and large amounts of the conversion work are free sculpted. (5 points)
III. Basing
Bases are painted plastic (1 point)
Some texture other than the standard base exists (2 points)
All bases are painted or textured and done in a manner which provides a cohesive feel to the army. (3 points)
As 3, but all bases are fully textured instead of simply painted. (4 points)
As 3, but many bases in the army have extra bits or are even mini-vignettes with sculpted or added pieces. (5 points)
IV. Technical Painting Skill
Colors are applied mostly cleanly, many slip ups, noticeable mistakes and detailing is done to a minimal standard (1 point)
Colors are applied mostly cleanly, few slip ups and noticeable mistakes and detailing is done to an average standard (2 points)
Colors are applied neatly and cleanly with almost no slip ups and noticeable mistakes. Detailing is done to an above average standard with details clearly distinguishable from the surrounding areas. (3 points)
As 3, but with some freehand work and even higher level of detailing.(4 point)
As 3, but with large amounts of [high
quality]freehand work and all details are fully clearly picked out.(5 point)
V. Army Theme and Cohesiveness
No obvious effort was made to theme the army in a cohesive manner thru painting. Army is just a collection of models. (1 point)
Minimal effort was put into creating a theme for the army (similarly based, some colors tie units together). (2 points)
A very consistent effort to tie the army together thru color scheme/basing/conversions was attempted and a display base of some type was used. (3 points)
As 3, and the effort extends through the entire army, and includes a modeled and painted display base. (4 points)
As 3, and the effort strongly enforces the theme or race of the army, including a fully detailed and almost diorama-like display base. (5 points)
Judge‟s Discretionary Points: (up to +5) for outstanding work or quality of work not expressly addressed by this checklist
**NOTE** Conversions are sometimes difficult to spot and really good conversions are supposed to be difficult to spot. If you have conversions in your army that you want to draw attention to, write a note to the paint judge and turn it in to the staff on Saturday. We don‟t want to miss anything!
In addition to the above possible 30 paint points players will vote for their favorite army (player‟s choice) on Saturday. Each vote an army gets will add to his/her army paint score (for determination of score for appearance award purposes) but NOT to the over-all score. These player choice bonus points will be kept separate.
The Battlefield and Strategy Cards
Terrain placement is fixed for this tournament (Obviously spells and other abilities which move terrain will still function normally, just re-place the terrain when your game is over please.)
Terrain special rules will be used for this tournament. There will be a card on the table that details the rules or the terrain piece will be marked as to what it's special rules are. No need to roll for random effects.
Below are six cards, five describing bonus point objectives and special rules and one “Your Lucky Day” card. After deployment, but before scouts are placed, both players must choose one strategy card from those remaining to them and place it on the table.
You MUST choose a card to play each round. Each card can only be used once during the tournament (including Your Lucky Day) and the card must be turned in when your results are reported.
Only the card player may gain bonus points based upon their card in play.
Card 1: Assassination
+2 for killing an enemy character in a challenge.
----------------------------------
Special Rules: Special rules from your opponent‟s card are nullified. However they will still gain bonus points based on their card.
Card 2: No Glory in Death
+2 for keeping your most expensive unit/model (NON-Character) above half for the entire battle.
----------------------------------
Special Rules: The player of this card automatically wins the roll to see who goes first, they may then choose to go first or allow their opponent to go first. If both players choose this card then roll off as normal.
Card 3: Operation Anaconda
+2 for killing enemy general.
("killing"= opponent's general not being alive for any reason at the end of the game.)
___________________
Special Rules: Special rules from your opponent‟s card are nullified. However they will still gain bonus points based on their card.
Card 4: Broken Arrow
+2 for having all of your dispel/power dice generating characters/units alive at the end of the game.
(If you have none of either to start with, you automatically get these points!)
----------------------------------
Special rules: For the first 3 turns of this game all your opponent's spells miscast on double 1's as well as double 6's. (note: double 1's do NOT cause IF)
Card 5: Live to Fight Another Day
+2 bonus points for having a unit that successfully (is not caught in that turn) flees from a charge.
**IF your army contains NO units or characters capable of fleeing at the start of the game THEN you may earn +2 bonus points if one of your characters refuse a challenge during the game.
----------------------------------
Special rules - Add d3 inches to one "flee" charge reaction during the battle. Must be declared prior to rolling any dice.
Card 6: Your Lucky Day
Card is useable only ONCE during the tournament.
Before any 2d6 roll is made (but not before a re-roll, such as that given by a battle standard-bearer), a player may employ Your Lucky Day. This automatically makes the result of the roll a 7 without actually rolling dice.
Note that Your Lucky Day cannot be used to change two dice within a number of other dice rolled—it must be a straight 2D6 roll and not a 3D6, for example. Additionally Lizardmen may use the Lucky Day for a single leadership test (as well as any other straight 2d6 roll), except for a re-roll such as that given by a battle standard-bearer.
Your Lucky Day may NOT be used for the Winds of Magic 2d6 roll
Your Lucky Day roll may only affect the dice of the person playing the card.
**Alternate use of Your Lucky Day**
You may choose to use Your Lucky Day after both players have played their scenario cards, but before the battle starts, to nullify the special rules of your opponent's card. However, they will still gain bonus points based on their card.
** WARNING** it has lost all formatting
